Google Maps can be a useful place to see sights that you weren’t able to before. It can also, and is more commonly used, as a GPS. It’s helped many people discover the area around them without stepping foot outside. The interface allows users to get a bird eye’s view of anywhere, and also a street view. The street view puts the user in a first person scenario, as if they were there in a car riding by. This adds immersion to the experience, which in some cases can be helpful, such as getting to know what a place looks like so you know what to look for when you arrive.

Google team members set out taking pictures of every street, city, and town across the world. Along the way, they may capture some less than desirable things, and sometimes those things can even be creepy. Google does it’s best to censor license plates, faces, etc. However, they couldn’t find a way to censor the creepy nature of some photos you can find right now on Google Maps. These range from camera mistakes to unexplainable things captured inside windows. With Google Maps covering such a large area (a.k.a the world) it’s no wonder we’ll stumble across something out of the ordinary.

15. Big Bunny

If you search the coordinates 44 14 39 77N 7 46 10 71E, you’ll find a gigantic bunny lying in what looks to be someone’s front yard. There is no real explanation as to why this giant rabbit is there. Perhaps it’s an Easter decoration that’s too big to take down.  Whatever it’s purpose, it certainly is strange, but it makes you wonder what it looks like up close.

The rabbit looks like it is twice the size of the house, and made out of cloth. No one has contacted the owners, and no one can get a real answer as to why this rabbit is here. The most disturbing part of it all is it’s expression. The look of horror on the rabbit’s face can make anyone uneasy.

14. Faces in the Window

A pub located in Liverpool, England is said to be haunted. The pub has stated that it has paranormal activity dating back a hundred years. The activity can be anything from footsteps, to bangs on the wall.

When the Google car passed by the pub, it caught something eerie. The top left window had a creepy face staring back at the camera. The face looks like an older bald gentleman. It doesn’t stop there however, the next window over you can almost make out someone in a tuxedo standing and looking out the window. This could’ve easily been a hoax, and/or mistake on the pub’s part. If anything these could be dolls or puppets stashed away in an attic, and forgotten about until now.

13. Giant Crab

The beach can be a nice and calming place for many. That is why so many people take vacations there, or even sometimes live there. The ocean is a wonderful place to spend the day, but the ocean also houses some of the scariest creatures on Earth.

A Google aerial view shows a coast with a few houses and what seems to be a pier. Right beneath the pier, you can see what clearly looks like a giant crab. There is an outline of a typical sea crab’s body, and it’s claws. It appears to be about as large as the pier or some of the houses located to the left of it. This could have easily been a prank, or an optical illusion. However, it is interesting to think of all that we’ve yet to discover in the deep sea. There could very well be a giant crab roaming the sea floor.

12. Abandoned

A Google Maps image in a disclosed location shows a set of buildings that are very obviously abandoned. The buildings barely look functional, much less habitable. It looks like they could possibly be old apartment or office buildings. It’s obvious they’ve been unkept for some time, seeing as there are large amounts of vegetation surrounding the property.

Who knows how or why they were abandoned, but it seems like they could house some interesting finds. This looks like a gold mine for urban explorers. The eerie feeling that you can get from just looking at this daytime picture must be tenfold when you visit it at night. The sheer deterioration of the buildings is enough to make anyone have second thoughts before stepping into its premises.

11. Sky Glitch

A cloudy day on a highway in Switzerland showed something rather strange sitting above the clouds. What looks to be a red rectangular shape stood high when a Google Maps car passed it. There has been a lot of speculation about what this could be. The most obvious answer would be that it is a camera glitch. Others say it was an airplane that got in the way, and confused the shutter.

There are also speculators that believe this to otherworldly. Many think these are signs of intelligent life forms from different planets trying to contact us. There is another bizarre theory (as if it hasn’t been bizarre yet) that concludes that this is proof of a floating city. People believe this red building-shaped mass is part of a larger floating city in the skies. Whatever it is, it’s worth a look.

10. Doppelgänger

A doppelgänger has origins in many cultures, and they all have negative connotations. A doppelgänger is defined as an entity that looks, and acts similarly to someone else (i.e. a twin). In one culture, it is said that if you run into your doppelgänger you will get a lot of bad luck, and eventually pass away soon after. Therefore, if you do believe in this myth, you’ll want to avoid finding your look-alike at all cost.

This is the exact opposite of what this man has done. A Google Maps image shows two men walking beside a river. However they are wearing the same clothes, have the same haircut, and seem to be walking the same way. This could easily be explained as shutter lag on the camera, especially since they their position is identical when the picture was taken. However, two doppelgängers finding each other makes for a much more interesting image.

9. Alien

There have been countless theories about aliens over the years. The idea of extra terrestrial beings have intrigued humans for years, to the point that Hollywood has created real life aliens! There are many entertainment mediums that have brought aliens to the limelight, and the line is blurred between reality and myth for many.

This is obvious in an image the Google Maps car picked up a few years ago. If you zoom in on the image, you can see an alien sitting in a chair outside. At first glance, it appears to be a small child, since the alien is dressed in a child’s clothing. However it becomes evident that it is not human, by the enlarged eyes, and long fingers. This is most likely a prop set up to scare people. If it was, it’s working…

8. Plant Pants

If you look through Vegastraat, Amsterdam on Google Maps, and you start peering into people’s backyards, you may run into something a little shocking. On a bench sits a pair of pants, and two black shoes that look human. However the top half is missing, or so it seems.

This could be any number of things. It could be a shutter delay that mixed the person’s body with one of the surrounding plants, or it could be someone who thinks this makes for great yard decoration. The least likely is a sentient potted plant that has found jeans. The owner of this place is unknown, and it hasn’t been confirmed if this photo is legitimate. It may be likely it is a weird prank the owner’s pull on passersby, seeing as the backyard is rather exposed. Whatever the case, a sentient plotted plant with pants can make anyone uncomfortable.

7. Tiger on the Loose

Bengal Tigers can be very dangerous, especially if you run into it outside an enclosure. However, if you’re lucky that won’t happen unless you are deep in the jungles of Africa. Or so it seems.

A picture seen on Google Maps shows an escaped Bengal tiger roaming the streets. This is very dangerous, and hopefully the tiger was brought back to its enclosure. We can assume the tiger is an escaped zoo animal, since the streets look like a community or small town. It would be in the best interest for someone who spotted the tiger (maybe it was the Google team members) to call animal control to get this thing off the streets before it harms anyone. The tiger seems to be as lost and unhappy, as anyone who would stumble upon it. Here’s hoping the tiger made it back safely.

6. Pigeon People

Japan can be a weird place to many, especially those not familiar with its culture. Japan is known for its zany advertising, shows, movies, and foods, however sometimes Japan can be weird even to itself. A Google Maps employee walking down a trail in Japan caught this less than pleasant image.

A flock of people in pigeon masks look on, as the cameraman passes by. Rather than this being an accidental capture, like others on this list, this seems intentional. These people might just have a strange sense of humor, and knew Google was taking photos, so they dressed for the occasion. It’s hard to believe (and more terrifying) that these people were just roaming the streets acting like pigeons. Whatever the story, it is definitely a weird find!

5. Mannequins

Many people have a rational fear of mannequins, or any lifeless humanoid figure for that matter. This fear is very common, and for good reason. Often, mannequins can scare an unbeknownst person, or someone who believes they are real bodies. Usually used to model clothes, sometimes mannequins are used for the sole purpose of inducing fear, usually around Halloween.

It seems someone was done being scared by their mannequins and decided to trash them. Or so this Google Maps image tells us. These are definitely old mannequins, and they look like they are past their due date, so it makes sense to throw them out. However, in the manner they threw them out,  they look like real people. In any case, hopefully they were taken away soon after this picture was taken…

4. Message on the Roof

Aerial shots are very popular when using Google Maps, and Google Earth. They can help you see the surrounding area of where your destination is, or if you want to take a look at the world from a different perspective. This of course will uncover new things that cannot be seen from the ground.

This is evident in a Google Earth image taken from above a building in a city. There is a message spray painted on top of a large building that reads; “come downtown and play.” This is most likely a prank to be played on someone who is using Google Earth, or doing maintenance on the building.

3. Airplane Crash

Don’t worry, the image you’re seeing isn’t of a horrific crash site. It is a set of a TV show that Google Maps just so happened to catch as they were filming. At first sight, the plane looks real, and the viewer expects to see tragedy, but with nobody aboard the plane (besides actors) there is just debris scattered everywhere.

It is important to look around the image as well to see that this isn’t a crash site, seeing as there are several emergency vehicles lined up next to each other, as if getting ready to come into frame for the next scene. There are also what appear to be trailers, for the actors, and staff to take breaks in. Luckily this isn’t a real plane crash, and it wasn’t caught on Google Maps for millions to see a sad tragedy.

2. Geoglyphs

A geoglyph is a design made into the Earth’s surface. Geoglyphs can be made through drawing on the earth’s surface, using rocks, or other means to create huge images that aren’t visible unless you’re far above them. These geoglyphs can be seen in many places around the world, and are usually housed in flat desert landscape. Assuming that these would be the easiest places to spot these images if you were hundreds of feet above them.

Google Earth shows several geoglyphs across the world, however this one seems to be one of the stranger ones. It shows artistry that could be otherworldly. The shapes, and figures drawn seem similar to Hollywood’s rendition of “alien script”. With this in mind, we can assume it was someone who had too much time on their hands trying to scare unbeknown people coming across this on Google Earth.

1. Goblin

This one is probably the most creepy, and unexplainable entry on the list. The picture is of a roadside hotel; if you zoom in on the second floor of the hotel you can see what appears to be a goblin standing about 5 feet tall next to a mountain bike. Behind it is an unhinged door, making it seem like this part of the hotel is unreachable for any guest.

The goblin itself is skinny and has two blank white eyeballs staring back at the camera. This could be a well-made Halloween decoration, but it still doesn’t make sense as to why it’s sitting on the second story porch of a hotel in the middle of nowhere. People who’ve run across this picture have many theories as to where the goblin came from, but most speculate it is just an unfortunate placement of a Halloween decoration.
