From crazy meteorites and mystical ancient temples to a bag with $150,000 worth of marijuana, today we bring you the most curious examples of weird things people ever found in their backyard.

15. Two kids found a Ferrari while playing

via SlipTalk

It was 1978 when two kids came across a Ferrari Dino 246 GTS while playing and digging in the backyard of their house. It sure is a pretty bizarre thing to find in your backyard, right? But unlike these two kids who had no idea what the fuss was all about, the police hurried to remove the luxurious vehicle as they claimed that it had been stolen. Well, there’s barely anyone who can explain why it had been hidden like this anyway. But all in all, it could have been an insurance scam so it kind of makes sense.

14. Marijuana

via The Intercept

As curious as it is, there was a guy who just decided to install solar batteries on the roof of his house. Little did he know that he’d stumble upon a bag full of odd packs and envelopes with a really suspicious plant. It probably took him a few seconds to realize that it was not any regular plant but marijuana! Not to mention that the rumored drugs were estimated to amount to more than $150,000. Before you think that this guy could have shut his mouth about it and live happily ever after, Marc Reed actually called the police. As you can imagine, the police were quick to confiscate the drugs and put his house under surveillance. Well, we bet that he didn’t exactly see it all coming.

13. A tunnel to the Great Pyramid of Khufu

via JourneysInLight

Ever heard of the mysterious and epic Giza Plateau in Egypt? Then here’s what you should know about it: the Great Pyramid of Khufu or Cheops is considered a mysterious phenomenon in Egypt that’s also linked to Herodotus, the Ancient Greek historian who had previously visited this enigmatic place. Now that you know something about the Pyramids of Khufu, you can imagine how startled a resident of the El Haraneya village was when he found something he had never expected. It was a tunnel that allegedly led to the legendary pyramids of Khufu. As for his great discovery, it’s believed to have served as a hidden passage to the mystical pyramids.

12. A medieval treasure

via CNN.com

While many of these finds are really bizarre and spooky, there are people who actually got pretty lucky with their discoveries. So there was an Austrian guy who stumbled upon a whole treasury in this backyard. While cleaning up his messy backyard, Andreas K somehow managed to dig up something that looked pretty suspicious. It only took him a second to realize that his backyard was actually covered in jewelry items of all shapes and kinds. To be more precise: there were more than 200+ jewelry items, like silver platters, rings, earrings, and brooches. As for Andreas, he allegedly stashed it somewhere and even forgot about it. He moved out, and a year later the new owners got the word out.

11. A colossal dinosaur egg?!

via Newsner

It was something like a gigantic dinosaur egg that took the breath away of an Argentina-based teenager, Jose Antonio Nievas. Actually, it was not a gigantic dinosaur egg, as he called it, but a prehistoric armadillo. In his own words, this curious thing really looked like an enormous dinosaur egg that turned out to be a colossal shell of a glyptodon or an armadillo – it was the size of a Volkswagen Beetle. Another baffling thing was the hole that was found in the shell – it was believed that there was a battle with another armadillo which kind of explains the existing hole in there.

10. Meteorites

via YouTube

What would you do if you found a meteorite right on your porch or in your backyard? Well, this idea sounds wrong on so many levels. First of all, we’re talking about a freaking meteorite! Secondly, it’s not really supposed to be resting on your porch either. At least that’s what we thought until we came across a story about a guy from Bosnia who stumbled upon a total of 6 meteorites! Believe it or not, these 6 meteorites had supposedly fallen from the sky and landed right on his porch. It turns out that the chance of a meteorite landing on your porch is much greater than we thought.

9. Church bells

via Love The Garden

So what exactly are these church bells doing in my backyard?!” Well, don’t ask us! We know nothing about it! Well, it sure is a pretty uncommon thing to come across in your backyard. Finding such a crazy object is both weird and kind of creepy but it’s way better than digging up human bones or WWII bombs anyway. So it turns out that these church bells were at least 400 years old. After excavation, it was finally claimed that they were stolen from a nearby church. Whoever stole them probably wanted to stash them somewhere where nobody would ever find them. Well, too bad for the thief – his finds were finally revealed.

8. A bomb shelter: it’s not a joke!

via KPCC

Imagine buying a beautiful and neat house which suddenly turns out to be a former bomb shelter. Pretty crazy, right? Indeed, this is what happened when Chris and Colleen Otcaseto moved in together in their new family house in California. What’s really curious here is that they knew about a former bomb shelter before moving in. However, they had no idea that it looked like this! They just believed that there’s really nothing left from it. Much to their surprise, their new backyard still housed an anti-radiation bomb shelter that was probably built during the Cold War.

7. Creepy human bones

via Outside Magazines

Unlike Chris and Colleen, the 14-year-old student from Salt Lake City had to live with the thought of human bones in his backyard. After all, it sure is much creepier and crazier than a bomb shelter. If you wonder how and when he made this gruesome discovery, it happened a few years back. While digging a hole for a lovely pond in his backyard, Ali Erturk suddenly came across a view he wasn’t ready for: there were human bones buried in the ground. Without wasting priceless minutes, Ali called the police to investigate the place. After a few tests, it turned out that the human bones belonged to an American-Indian tribe dating from 1,000 years ago.

6. A handful of gold coins (estimated at over $10 million)

via Time Magazine

Much like the case with the Austrian guy, a married couple was lucky enough to find more than $10 million worth of gold. Here’s the shorter version of this mind-blowing story: they noticed an odd rusty box sticking out from the ground. Once they dug it up they were dumbfounded by the sight of 8 more boxes. Each of them was full of ancient coins which were estimated to be worth more than $10 million. Surely, the couple didn’t think twice about selling the treasure at auction. Well, good for them! Today they sure are much richer than they thought they would be!

5. Dinosaur remains

via Pinterest

Our next adventurer is an English guy named John Lambert from Ipswich. One day, he decided that a new fence around his home would be an amazing idea. However, once he got to business, his shovel hit a gigantic bone. At first, he didn’t think much about it so he just took it to his barn. After almost 16 years of gathering dust in his barn, this weird bone was finally investigated by specialists. In the end, it turned out that this odd thing was a bone of a giant sea serpent dating between 60-250 million years ago.

4. A freaking machine gun!

via YouTube

Earlier this year, a Canadian citizen made a discovery that really disturbed him. There was an obvious plastic bag that was easy to notice in the space between the garage and the fence. Much to his surprise, the plastic bag contained a pillowcase with a fully-loaded machine gun. Where did this thing come from? If only he knew the answer to this question. But anyways, the story doesn’t stop here: when he looked inside, he also saw a cell phone placed right next to the machine gun. Whose cell phone was that? What kind of a person used to live there? Well, these are seriously disturbing questions that are better left unanswered.

3. An eerie cemetery

via TheClever

Here we are with another shadowy discovery made by a guy named Vincent Marcello. This time the story takes place in New Orleans. Vincent wanted to have an outdoor swimming pool in his backyard, so he started digging holes there. It didn’t take him long to realize that something was wrong with it – he literally ended up digging up an ancient cemetery that dated back to the 1700s. In the end, workers dug up a total of 13 caskets keeping human remains. Well, now we know why we wouldn’t ask for swimming pools and ponds.

2. WWII bombs

via The Guardian

Yes, it’s true – more than thousands of homes were built in a specific area in Orlando which was once a major bombing range. Although the whole area suffered a major clean-up, there are still examples of cases when people stumbled upon a bomb in their backyard. Well, it’s not like the bomb will blow up at any given moment, but it still feels kind of creepy. After all, it sure is kind of abnormal to have a defective bomb that probably dates back to the WWII. So yeah, it’s definitely not cool.

1. Whale fossil

via The San Diego Union-Tribune

Much like our previous case with the bone, there was a guy who found a similar large rock with the same bone pattern. In his own words, the weird bone was sticking out of the ground so he dug it up to explore it in detail. Much to his surprise, the bizarre stone with a bone pattern turned out to be a whale fossil buried in his backyard. According to a paleontologist who investigated it, the fossil was about 14-16 million years old. As for the creature, it was claimed to be a really rare baleen whale that inhabited the Earth millions of years ago. Yes, it’s hard to believe, but it’s true.
