Having children is for most people the most wonderful experience in the world, especially if it happens at the right time. So when is the right time to have kids? Of course, there is no correct answer to that question because every person has a different take on this, but most of the people would say that the right time is when you find the right person and you decide to create a family together. However, even though there is no right answer to that, there is one that is considered wrong – when children have children of their own.

In most parts of the world, teenage pregnancy rates have gone down significantly, because even though a lot of people think today’s teenagers are out of control, their lifestyle has changed a lot during the last century. For starters, a while back it was a pretty common thing for young people to get married around the age of 15 and to have children of their own. Today, people prefer to get their education and find a job before even thinking about starting a family.

But today, we are not talking about the 15-year-olds who got pregnant by accident even though it happens every day. We are focusing on much younger kids and on the disturbing stories of their (often unwanted) pregnancies.

15. Lina Vanessa Medina – The Youngest Mom Ever

It might come as quite a shock but the world’s youngest mother ever was a little girl from Peru who was only 5 and a half years old when she gave birth to her baby boy. So how is something like that even possible? Unfortunately, the girl suffered from a pituitary condition that triggered the ovulation a lot earlier than it usually happens and it made it possible for her ovaries to produce an egg ready for fertilization. She was brought to the hospital as her parents suspected she had a large tumor growing in her abdomen but it wasn’t the tumor that was growing there – it was a little boy. The father had been arrested as the primary suspect but he was released once the tests showed it wasn’t his baby. The real father remains a mystery.

14. Mum-Zi – A Grandmother At The Age Of 17

Mum-Zi, a harem girl from Nigeria, is known as the world’s youngest grandmother since both she and her daughter gave birth at around the age of 8. The practice of keeping harems has existed for centuries and it is still a pretty common thing in some parts of the world. Occasionally, there will be an unusually young girl there, but the chieftain won’t have any relations with her until she’s undergone her menarche. In the case of Mum-Zi, the menarche came a couple of years earlier than it usually does and she gave birth when she was 8 years and 4 months old. What makes this story even more unbelievable is the fact that her daughter Zi went through the same thing and gave birth when she was 8 years and 8 months old, making Mum-Zi the world’s youngest grandmother ever at the age of 17.

13. Young Columbian Girl Wandering The Streets

In 2004, Columbian policemen stumbled upon an 8-year-old girl wandering the streets. When they noticed her bulging belly, they immediately suspected she was smuggling drugs and they took her into custody. Once they realized she wasn’t carrying drugs, they took her to the hospital where the doctors confirmed she was 32 weeks pregnant. When asked how it happened, the girl told the policemen she was assaulted by a 32-years-old man working in a nearby drugstore. The girl’s mother was sick and she asked the girl to get her some medicine there and the man took advantage of her at that point. However, the police weren’t able to find any solid evidence and the girl’s testimony wasn’t enough to put him in jail. She gave birth to a baby girl in September 2004 at 8 years old and 5 months.

12. Happy Young Parents

While most of the stories of the world’s youngest mothers are usually tragic stories about men taking advantage of little girls, this wasn’t one of those cases. Here we have a story of proud British parents – a 12-year-old mother and a 13-year-old father. They had been dating for about a year when the girl became pregnant and gave birth to a little baby girl. The baby’s grandparents, while really shocked at first, have committed their full support and they have learned how to deal with this highly unusual situation. According to the young grandfather, this wasn’t the worst thing that could happen. He was able to accept the situation when he compared it to some other stories of children getting into the drugs or becoming criminal at such a young age. Sure, when you put it that way, it isn’t so bad.

11. The Tragic Story of Leyla Mafi

The story of Leyla Mafi is a particularly upsetting one because her own mother was a part of the repetitive abuse Leyla has gone through from a very early age. Leyla was mentally challenged and at the age of 19, she was assessed to have the mental age of an 8-year-old. When Leyla was 8, her mother started selling her as a prostitute to earn some money and some of the people paying for some time with Leyla were even members of their family, including her brothers. She gave birth to a baby at the age of 9 and she continued to work at this particular line of work after that because she was forced to. At the age of 21, she was sentenced to death for prostitution, but the Iranian Supreme Court reviewed the case and the girl didn’t face the death penalty after all due to the extraordinary circumstances.

10. Wanwisa Janmuk – Happily Married At The Age Of 8

Young girls getting married at a very early age is still a pretty common thing in some of the world’s cultures. One of them was Wanwisa Janmuk who was married to her 26 years old husband at the age of 8. When she was 9, she gave birth to her first baby and the local authorities in Phetchabun were notified when the husband went to register the birth of their baby in 2001. The doctors handling the case were so confused by Wanwisa’s age that they had to check her birth certificate to confirm her age was really only 9. However, they confirmed that even though girls at such a young age rarely give birth, in case they are healthy and have no additional complications, it is possible for them to carry a pregnancy to term and have a healthy baby.

9. The Unusual Case of Anna Mummenthaler

What makes Anna Mummenthaler, a girl from Switzerland, so different from the rest of the world’s female population is the fact that she got her first period when she was only 2 years old. Although it is extremely rare, it can happen as a result of certain health conditions and hormonal abnormalities. She gave birth to a baby boy back in 1759 when she was only 8 years old. Unfortunately, the pregnancy didn’t go all that smoothly and the baby was stillborn. The father’s identity was never officially confirmed but it is suspected that it was one of the family relatives who took advantage of the little girl. Even though Anna started menstruating at an extremely early age, she went through her menopause at the age of 52 which is considered average.

8. The 6-year-old H.

On October 11, 1925, a 6-year-old girl gave birth by C-section in Delhi, India. She was initially admitted for a suspected tumor in her abdomen, but the doctors discovered she was in fact pregnant. The curious thing about her case was the fact that she had never menstruated so the doctors suspected she got pregnant during her first ovulation which would have resulted in her first period if she hadn’t been impregnated at that time. The baby was in a head-up breech position and it wouldn’t turn so the doctors performed a successful caesarean section and delivered a healthy baby. Although the young mother’s breasts were far from fully developed, she breastfed the baby for 9 months and they both recovered without further complications. The full identity of the girl isn’t known to the public since in all documents she was simply called H.

7. Hilda Trujillo – Impregnated By Her Cousin

On December 16, 1957, at Lima Maternity Hospitalin Peru, an 8-year-old girl Hilda Trujillo gave birth to a baby girl named María del Rosario. Hilda’s mother noticed her daughter’s body changing in an unusual way so she took her to a hospital to get examined by doctors who confirmed that the girl was indeed pregnant. Her father was enraged by this revelation and he immediately went to the police and told them that he’d suspected his 22-year-old nephew who was living with them at the time of assaulting his daughter. He was later arrested and convicted of this heinous act. The OB-GYN from the Lima Maternity hospital revealed that assaulting such young girls, unfortunately, wasn’t something unheard of in Peru, but it was extremely rare for girls that age to give birth.

6. Zulma Guadalupe Morales – Pregnant And Ashamed

In January 1993 in Guadalajara, Mexico, Zulma Guadalupe Morales delivered a healthy 7-pound baby boy via caesarean section when she was only 8 years old. The delivery went without further complications as Zulma maintained her health through the pregnancy, but the doctors considered C-section to be the safer way to go because of her small stature which would make it very difficult for her to deliver the baby the natural way. Hospital officials didn’t know who the baby’s father was but it was later discovered that Zulma was impregnated by her uncle. However, Zulma’s parents decided not to share that information with the local authorities because they were ashamed of the circumstances of their little girl’s pregnancy. Not only was Zulma assaulted and impregnated at the age of 8, she also felt ashamed of what happened to her even though none of that was her fault.

5. A 10-year-old With Unknown Pains

A 10-year-old girl in Argentina was brought to a hospital by her mother after complaining of severe abdominal pains. The doctors weren’t sure what caused the apparent swelling of the girl’s stomach and the pains she described, and the pregnancy was nowhere near their minds because of the girl’s young age. However, once they did the ultrasound, they were all quite surprised to see that the girl was indeed 26 weeks pregnant. She gave birth 9 weeks later through an emergency caesarean section to a premature baby girl. Both the mother and the child recovered completely after spending some time under the doctors’ care. The father of the baby was a girl’s 15-year-old cousin who took advantage of her. Later, he was arrested and imprisoned for this terrible assault.

4. The Sins Of The Father

A while back, a 10-year-old girl in Bolivia gave birth to a little baby girl via caesarean section. When she was questioned about that by the local authorities she stated that she was assaulted by an older man whom she didn’t know. Since she wasn’t able to give the detailed description, the police weren’t able to identify the perpetrator. However, just a little bit over a year later, the girl was admitted to the hospital and she was pregnant again. She claimed that the father wasn’t the same as the last time, but it was another older man who assaulted her and whom she called “Armando”. Once the girl was released from the hospital, she suddenly disappeared. At that point, her mother came forward and informed the authorities that it was the girl’s father who had been repeatedly taking advantage of her and he ran away with her when he got scared the police would catch him.

3. The Youngest Mother In The U.S.

Most of the cases of the world’s youngest mothers have been documented in slightly less developed parts of the world or in the places where it is still pretty common for little girls to get married at a very young age. However, it could happen to anyone anywhere and the U.S. are no exception. The case of the America’s youngest mother occurred in Chicago in 1964 when a 10-year-old gave birth to a baby girl. Her teacher was the first to notice that something strange was happening to the young girl’s body and once she was brought to the hospital, the doctors confirmed she was pregnant. The girl admitted that she knew the father and that it was a 16-year-old living in her neighborhood. Once the baby was born, it was given up for adoption.

2. Till Death Do Us Part

The girls who become pregnant at an extremely early age not only have to go through an emotional rollercoaster, but the physical part of that is also not a walk in the park for them. Their bodies are simply not built for bearing children and giving birth and they require serious medical attention in order to give birth to a healthy baby and recover completely. Unfortunately, that kind of medical attention is not available to everybody. An 8-year-old girl in India was forced to marry an older man because her widow mother couldn’t afford to keep all of her children. She thought the girl would have a better life if she had a husband to take care of her. Unfortunately, the little girl died during childbirth because her body just couldn’t handle it. The baby didn’t make it either.

1. Liza Gryshchenko – A Sad Ukrainian Story

Liza Gryshchenko was only 6 years old when she gave birth to her child. She was brought to the hospital in 1934 by her concerned parents who noticed something unusual was going on with their daughter’s body. At that point, the pregnancy was confirmed and the family was questioned on the matter. Liza revealed a terrible secret about her 70-years-old grandfather who repeatedly abused her and fathered her baby. Since the pregnancy was confirmed early, the girl was monitored closely by her doctors and it went smoothly right until the moment of birth when Liza experienced placental abruption. The doctors recommended a C-section but the parents insisted on their daughter giving birth naturally because they believed it was the safer way to go for Liza. She made it through, but unfortunately the baby died during childbirth.
