Ever since the invention of cameras over a century ago, millions of photos are taken every day. With new ways of taking photos, and new technology, pictures and videos can be taken at almost any moment. As a result, people document their lives, events, and history. Even paranormal activity is captured. These photos are often taken by accident with the photographer not knowing what they’ve captured until they look through their photos at a later point.

Anything and everything from strange creatures, apparitions, proof of time travel, and so much more, pictures can help us define the undefined. Take all of this with a grain of salt, because with mystery comes myth. There are many photo editing tools out there that can edit a photo to make it look real, when in reality it’s a hoax. Often these will be easy to identify, but given enough time and care, a photograph can become confusing to anyone. Even if the photo is hard to define as real or fake, these photographs bring up intriguing debates, and theories. Many strange photographs have been tested, and it was proven that they weren’t doctored. These photos still leave people scratching their heads to this day.

15. Strange Beast

This photo in someone’s backyard was taken because a bush was rustling around. The curious owner of the property went to take a look, and found this while taking pictures blindly. The creature doesn’t look like any animal we know of. It stands very tall. Assuming the photographer is of average height, this creature can be upwards of seven to eight feet tall! It’s very hairy as made apparent by it’s huge arm. It has a face of a gorilla or primate of some kind.

It is obviously shocked to have it’s picture taken, and might be as scared as the person behind the camera. Hopefully this is just a prank to gain popularity on the Internet. Ever since the convincing footage of Bigfoot was released to the world, a lot of hoaxes have hit the Internet. However, if this was a real creature, it is intriguing, if not a bit disturbing.

14. Giant Eel

Abnormally large sea creatures have been the subject of many theorists’ work for centuries. Since there is a lot that remains a mystery in the depths of the oceans even smaller bodies of water, it’s no wonder people are so intrigued by what lies below. Oceans and some lakes house many unknown sea creatures that we haven’t discovered yet. Whether it be because the technology isn’t there yet, or the fact that there is so much water on Earth, there is a lot left to be found.

That makes pictures like this one all the more believable. This photo shows a shadowy, slithery figure in a shallow lake. It looks like it might stretch out between twelve and fifteen feet long, if we compare it to the boat. There are no prominent facial features, therefore people have theorized this could be any number of things. The most famous theories are an oversized eel, or a distant relative of the Loch Ness Monster.

13. Pyramids on the Moon

This object was supposedly captured during an Apollo mission to the Moon. Space is home to mystery. There is infinite space, therefore there is an infinite number of mysteries and infinite things to discover. When people take voyages out to space, they have equipment to document the things they find. This is one of those findings.

The image shows what looks to be a pyramid on the Moon. At first glance of the original photo, it doesn’t show anything, but if you increase the exposure, you can start to make out the outline of a pyramid. This is particularly odd since satellite images have never revealed pyramids on the Moon. People use this photo to try to debunk the Moon landing by saying it was a piece of filming equipment.

12. Military Ghost

This old photograph of an army platoon shows a bunch of soldiers before coming home from war who are missing a few of there comrades who had sadly passed during that war. Not all of them were able to make it to the photo op. Or so it seemed.

This photo was taken back in 1919, and features something paranormal. Freddy Jackson, a mechanic who was killed during the war, is still present in this photo. The face is so clear, that it was easily identifiable as Freddy. Skeptics say that due to the technology of the cameras used at that time period, the exposure was most likely slow and captured another man’s face. However, the coincidences are something to think about. Seeing as this was the same day as Freddy Jackson’s funeral, it’s almost too good to be true.

11. Benched Ghost

This photo taken at what looks like a train station shows something pretty odd. A woman is sitting waiting for something, and on the bench behind her we can see a white misty figure who is also sitting. It seems to be relaxing in the seat, with it’s arm up on the bench.

There are no real features to the apparition, which means it could be fake. A simple trick of light to the camera could cause this. Since this is such an old photograph, it seems likely it was an error on the camera’s end. However, there is compelling evidence to suggest it wasn’t. Perhaps the photographer saw something, and decided to capture it. Whatever the case, it’s made for an interesting photo, and possible evidence of the paranormal.

10. Dark Object

This photo was taken by the international space station. It features a weird floating object in Earth’s orbit. This object has sharp edges, and appears to be fully black. The international space station has taken many different angles of the object, and they’re open to the public.

Speculators believe it is a sign of extra terrestrial life forms. They suggest it is some sort of spaceship, or U.F.O. Others (the more skeptical type) say it’s a fragment of a meteorite that got stuck in Earth’s orbit. A lot of people have shot down that argument because they don’t think it could be a space rock. It almost looks as if it was manufactured. It is still floating in space, and will continue to for years, therefore I don’t think we’ll be getting a solid answer anytime soon.

9. Ghost Piano

This photo is of a beautiful piano in a grandiose church. However something appears out of place in the image if you take a closer look. To the right of the piano, there appears to be an apparition of sorts. It has a distinguished face and black cloak for a body. The face could be a mask, perhaps a mask of plague doctor from those times.

The apparition was hard to make out when the photo was first taken, but after editing the image’s exposure, the figure becomes obvious. Something like this could be easily faked. Seeing as the figure appears at the front of the photo, it’d be easy for someone to simply add it in, edit the colors, and make it transparent. The supporting evidence that makes this image true is the original photograph apparently has the same figure in it.

8. Ghost Hand

This picture taken of four boys seems to be an ordinary picture of friends hanging out. However, if you take a closer look at the image you can find something rather odd.

Next to the boy’s head wearing the black shirt, you will find an extra hand. This is strange as seeing all the boy’s hands are accounted for. The obvious explanation for this is there is a fifth boy behind them all who wasn’t quick enough to make it in the picture. Either that or this photo contains the hand of a ghost. The boys in the picture don’ t seemed phased by the hand, meaning it could have easily been a fifth person.

7. Prom Night Ghost

This image of a man and his date for prom night has a creepy detail hidden in the back. If you take a closer look at the window behind the man’s head, you can see what is obviously a face peering in. That’s one of everyone’s greatest fear and it became reality at these kid’s prom night.

The face has distinguishable features. It has a curve where you can make out the actual head, a dark hole for an eye, and what looks like a nose beneath that. It could be a person outside peering in, but based on the height of the man, the person would have to be seven to eight feet tall, which is extraordinary in and of itself. The other sensible explanation is a lighting error, making it look like there is a face outside the window.

6. Old Cell Phone

A clip taken from an old Charlie Chaplin film titled The Circus has a scene where an older women walks by the frame. It is obvious something is strange immediately when she enters frame. She is holding her hand up to her ear as if talking on a cellular phone. However, given the time period it was way before cellphones existed.

Many people theorize that she is a time traveler from another time who came back to visit her favorite film. Other people have determined that it is a hearing aid she is fiddling with. This is a strong theory, however the amount of time she has her hand to her face would suggest otherwise. People have said it’s a very early model of a cellphone, with the earliest models dating back to 1942. With no concrete answer yet, all we have is a snippet from this film to fuel our theories.

5. Big Catch

This very old photo is of several fishermen holding up what seems to be a huge eel. There are nine men presenting this long catch, and all seem very proud of what they’ve discovered. As we said earlier, the ocean is a vast place for many creatures to hide, so why not the world’s largest fish?

This image has never been documented to be legitimate or not, therefore a lot of speculation has found it’s way to it. There’s not much to theorize or fake here though. Either the men made a fake fish, and posed with it for what may be the earliest troll in history, or it’s real. There’s no real room for photo editing seeing as the photo is so old. It seems to be a convincing find, but the real question is what did they do with it afterwards?

4. Stalker

This ordinary picture of a man standing dangerously close to a cliff may be the only thing you see on your screen. However, if you take a closer look at what’s behind the man it may catch you off guard. A huge figure stands just a few feet behind the man and is staring back at the photographer as if it’s getting it’s photo taken instead.

The figure is at least eight feet tall, seeing as the man doesn’t seem that short. It is dressed for the cold weather, in a long overcoat. The figure resembles a human, aside from the fact that it’s huge. This could be an optical illusion, given the amount of foliage in the back, however once you see the figure, you’ll never stop seeing it.

3. Spaceman

This photo of a young boy was taken during a picnic with his mother. It is obviously fairly old, as shown by the quality of the image (and the kid’s haircut). Behind the kid, we can see a large white humanoid figure. Most would assume it’s simply someone passing by.

When this picture was taken, the photographer stated that nobody else was seen in the area, and she didn’t realize there was someone there until getting the photo developed days later. There have been theories that this is the ghost of the boy’s father. Others believe it’s an apparition of a spaceman. This is due to the fact that the man’s head looks like a space helmet. Whatever it is, the backstory behind it definitely makes it creepy to say the least.

2. Time Traveler

This photo was taken during a bridge reopening in the 1940s. If you look hard enough, someone definitely seems out of place. There is a man with an odd haircut, sunglasses, and what looks to be a graphic tee. He is definitely out of place compared to the people surrounding him, wearing suits and hats from that era.

Skeptics have deemed this a coincidence of sorts. The sunglasses were actually a pair of glasses that were fairly popular during that time. As for the tee shirt, it was taken at a wrong angle, and was an early example of a loose shirt. These are decent arguments, however if you look even closer at his hands, you can see something strange. He look to be holding a DSLR camera. As if he was taking pictures of the event. Whatever the case, it definitely provokes thought!

1. Kennedy Assassination

This lady otherwise known as the “Babushka Lady” was present at the scene of President Kennedy’s assassination. With the Kennedy assassination comes the question of who actually killed him. Police at the scene quickly scattered to grab bystanders to ask them questions about what they’d seen.

This lady supposedly had a camera, and a great angle to see who pulled the trigger. She got away without being questioned, and never came forward with her game changing evidence. Possibly out of fear of the attacker or not wanting that kind of attention, so no one can really blame her. It is interesting to think that there is, or was, evidence of the Kennedy assassination no one has seen before, evidence that could potentially put the theories.
