Office Flings: 20 Careers That Are Most Prone To Having An Affair
Infidelity isn’t a new thing, it exists in every culture, country and creed, but recent studies have concluded that there are certain professions where people are more likely to cheat on their partners than others. It’s still up for debate whether the professions themselves promote unfaithfulness, or that people predisposed to cheat are more likely to seek out these professions.
A research study conducted by Radford University tries to answer the age-old question whether you should marry your massage therapist, professional cheerleader or a bartender. Yet another survey that was carried out by the “infidelity dating website,” stated that people working in the finance field such as bankers, brokers and analyst are more likely to cheat on their partners than those in other professions. However, following those in finance, are those in the aviation field, healthcare and business, and sports. These results were based on a poll of more than 5,000 women who have or currently are cheating on their partners.
Although this might come as a bit of a surprise, cheating isn’t the leading cause of divorce, and a majority of couples are able to heal and grow after a single cheating incident. However, repeated acts of infidelity, such as those associated with an affair, will increase the likelihood of a couple splitting up.
Here’s a comprehensive list of careers that are prone to having an affair:
20. Bartender
If your better half works as a bartender, then you probably need to get worried, and more so if they are attractive. With late night shifts serving people alcohol, bartenders are likely to increase the chance of meeting new people and having an affair. While it’s not easy being a bartender, life is a party in some way, and you’ll constantly get hit on by your customers. Clearly, this environment doesn’t offer the best foundation for anyone to be in a stable relationship. And while most of the time the affair is one-sided (let’s face it, they’ll be good because they want a tip) bartenders are likely to fall into the infidelity pitfall.
19. Professional Cheerleader
Well, this doesn’t take a lot of thinking, and people who date cheerleaders definitely have trust issues with their spouses who spend quite a lot of time with the team managers, celebrities, fans and pro athletes they cheer for. Due to the nature of their jobs, and their persuasive dance moves, they are likely to attract the wrong kind of attention. If you are dating a hot sexy cheerleader, it’s time you hired a private investigator. They might not cheat with their colleagues because they want to, half the time they will regret that decision, but they will cheat because it’s easy and the experience is exciting for them.
18. Massage Therapist
While visiting your massage therapist might be an avenue to release pent up tension, it could also lead to a steamy affair. Just think about it. Having to spend up to 30 minutes being massaged once a month by the same person, it doesn’t get more personal than that. 67% of men who visit massage parlors confess they have a thing for their massage therapist, and they go back not because of the service, but because of the person. The more attractive they are, the more clients they get. Most people would have an affair with their massage therapist due to the level of intimacy involved between the client and the massage therapist.
17. Real Estate Agent
This might be a shocker, but it’s one of the more surprising professions that’s marked to have cheaters. It might be due to the erratic hours or how close and personal these agents get with their clients in terms of personal lives and homes. To qualify as an exceptional realtor, you have to get personal with your clients, know every single detail about the home you want to sell for them or to them, make them feel like they are making the best choice. This process is often dangerous, boundaries might be crossed and toes might be stepped on, making this profession an infidelity risk. If you are dating a real estate agent, you better get worried if your spouse starts working odd hours frequently.
16. Stay At Home Moms
While the stay at home mom feels her work is tremendously fulfilling, it never ends, and worse, it gets extremely boring and lonely. This will most of the time create some sort of resentment on both ends. Normally, the working spouse will feel they are putting in a lot of effort to sustain the family. Therefore, they need things at home to be perfect. The stay at home spouse, on the other hand, feels left out, lonely and lacks some much-needed attention. A combination of those factors is the best recipe for a steamy affair with your next door neighbor, postman or gardener!
15. IT Workers
We live in the IT and social media age. There are practically thousands of dating apps available for free, and according to research, they are a reason behind most divorces today. The internet has made interaction among different people globally as easy as clicking a button, and due to the level of anonymity and connectivity, a lot of people easily get lured in. IT workers spend most of their time online, and a few of them actually build these apps and sites. This increases their chances of interacting with these sites making them more susceptible to the pitfalls leading to infidelity.
14. Pilots
This is every young boy’s dream job, to fly a plane. As innocent as it may look, this profession exposes pilots to infidelity. The aviation industry is marked as one of the top professions where people are likely to cheat on their partners. It’s hard to tell whether it’s the odd hours, the travel thrill or the interaction with new people. Being a pilot means you spend a lot of hours flying and away from home. You also get to visit many places around the world and meet many people in the process. Staying away from your spouse and spending too much time with other people could lead to infidelity, especially with colleagues as well as customers.
13. Bankers
The finance industry also has a high rate of infidelity, and it’s also ranked as one of the professions where colleagues are likely to sleep around with each other. It has been researched that men are likely to cheat depending on the amount of power that they are given. There are three factors involved that include, high income, travel and routine interaction with highly appealing people in their professional setting. A combination of these is likely to bring out temptations leading to infidelity. This will make most of them power hungry and egocentric. Bankers are prone to having affairs due to these factors.
12. Brokers
Brokers are part of the finance industry just like their colleagues in banking, a job that’s ranked high in infidelity, especially with fellow workmates. To be a successful broker, you have to be a social guru, meaning you have to be a master of persuasion. While this might seem like a social characteristic, brokers do this to earn a living, and they are good at it. Their long working hours, extensive traveling schedules and interaction with clients and other people expose them to infidelity. They have a knack for persuasion, and they almost definitely get what they want; if you are dating a broker, you better watch out!
11. Nurses
While this is a female dominated profession, the number of male nurses has significantly increased since the 70s. However, it’s still a female dominated profession. This profession entails strenuous long shifts and the burden of constantly interacting with ill patients. Nurses and health workers as such will use infidelity as a distraction to their hassles much like alcohol and drugs. This might be the reason why nurses are known to cheat frequently. Nurses also experience a lot of emotional and traumatizing events every single day with the same people. This could explain why most of them get vulnerable and indulge in infidelity.
10. Secretaries
If you are dating a CEO, you better know their secretary. It’s commonplace for the secretary to cheat with their bosses and there are enough movies made on this concept. Most secretaries are young women, often flashy and attractive. They have to be that way to maintain the face of the company, however this makes them easy prey for their bosses. As much as it’s not specific who is guilty in this scenario, it’s a common occurrence in this profession. Perhaps it is normal how personal secretaries get with their bosses, however if you are dating a secretary, you’ll need to keep close tabs on them.
9. CEOs
Most CEO positions in the world are dominated by men. CEOs make tons of cash and live lavish lifestyles. They are powerful and looked up to by many. They command power, are brutal when it comes to making hard decisions and due to this they are feared. It’s not news that CEOs get involved in steamy affairs, it happens with a lot of men and women in power. They are also power hungry and would do just about anything to get what they want. With long working hours, lavish lifestyles and extensive traveling schedules keeping them away from their spouses, CEOs are a deadly target to young single people.
8. Police
Policemen all over the world have a reputation for cheating on their spouses. It’s hard to tell if it’s the uniforms or the guns, but they are clearly high in infidelity indexes. Having a sense of authority, with the probability of long odd working hour shifts, the kind of physical and psychological stress involved in their line of work could lead them into adultery. It’s also a known fact, a specific type of women (Badge Bunnies), who most of the time end up dating them, have a thing for these uniformed fellows, and would do just about anything to get involved with them. While this might not be a concrete fact, it explains how policemen end up cheating.
7. Athletes
Well, this wouldn’t make headlines anymore, it’s commonplace for athletes to cheat on their spouses. The temptations probably get too high, we’ll never know. However, while this wouldn’t shock anyone, athletes are considered heroes, superhuman and even celebrities. Everyone wants a piece of them, and it’s prone to getting into their heads. Athletes are currently some of the wealthiest and most flamboyant people in the world, which attracts a lot of attention and especially from the opposite sex. Constant temptations and sexual offers could spiral into a steamy love affair or a nasty divorce. Whichever it is, it’s bound to happen one way or another.
6. Nightlife Industry (DJs, Dancers)
According to research, entertainers including those who work in the nightlife industry may seem all energetic and confident, but half the time they suffered from problems such as depression, low self-esteem, and psychological issues at some point in their life and especially their childhood. They use their entertainment to kill the depression, and you will notice that they party a lot and spend half their time in clubs and bars. Apart for that, they work in an industry where drugs and alcohol are the norm, and depending on how popular or attractive they are, they are prone to getting hit on several times in just one night. If you are dating a DJ, you better be on the lookout for “groupies.”
5. Journalists
While journalists might seem to be the hardest working lot in this list, they are more promiscuous than you might think. Journalists are likely to sleep with their colleagues or sources while trying to get a story. I wouldn’t call it a bribe, but maybe it’s the level of intimacy and passion involved in the job that often gets them trapped in infidelity. Journalists work odd hours and travel far and wide, they interact a lot and deal with the worst the world has to offer; from wars to accidents to brutal killings, they have seen it all! Journalists are more likely to divert their depression into infidelity and alcoholism that any other profession.
4. Artists
Artists bring out sexuality. Whether it’s in their paintings, writing, music or films, they have a way with our hearts and minds. It’s not surprising to see people throw themselves at celebrity musicians or movie stars. They have a streaming line of emails and letters stacked every day. Artists, and more so music artists, have the highest rate of infidelity cases. They are loved by everyone, they are celebrities, and their line of work often exposes them to circumstances that could make them unfaithful to their partners. If you are dating an artist, you probably are used to the million late night calls from fans who want to get dirty.
3. Lawyers
While they are expected to be the men and women of the law, lawyers are perhaps the most unethical professionals. There are enough jokes about layers and their lies. However, not all lawyers lie, but a majority of them, and especially defense lawyers, have mastered the art of manipulating the truth to fit a narrative that will work best for them. It wouldn’t be a surprise to anyone that lawyers make good cheats. Long hours plus the level of intimacy they get from their clients may be a reason. As the saying goes, once a liar always a liar. Better keep tabs on your lawyer boyfriend before things get steamy.
2. Firemen
It’s no surprise that firemen are on this list, considering the great job they do for the community, not counting the cheating. Firemen divorce rates are only second to the military. In the community, Firemen are seen as heroes and a marvel to many women. They endure a lot of danger, and while you might think the biggest risk to them is their physical work, it’s in fact the metal effects of their jobs. The experiences they get from work affects them mentally, and they end up spending a lot of time in bars or at the firehouse with colleagues. They are rarely at home.
1. Air Hostess
The aviation industry has its own pitfalls when it comes to infidelity. And we all know what they say about pilots and their hostesses. It’s hard dating an air hostess, especially if they are attractive, which they definitely are, it’s a part of their job to be attractive. They are in the service industry, meaning they need to appeal to their clients by being nice, always smiling and being caring. This sometimes sends the wrong message, if not always. Just like their colleagues the pilots, they spend a lot of time away from home, in hotels in different cities across the globe, making them more prone to infidelity.
